The New Marketing Org Chart

June 24, 2026 By: FMI Managing Editor

The marketing org chart is getting rewritten. ✍️

For decades, marketing teams followed the same game plan.

CMOs led the vision, managers handled the process, and specialists did the work. The structure made sense when every task required a separate person, platform, and handoff. But AI agents are changing the marketing workflow.

Research, ideation, content, design, AEO, and analytics can now be supported by agents that work faster and more continuously than traditional workflows.

This doesn’t mean marketers become less important.
People still develop the strategy, the message, the creative direction, the ethical boundaries, and make the final call. Agents do research, create more options, uncover more insights, and add agility and speed.

The future of marketing is not doing everything yourself. It’s learning how to integrate and orchestrate your human + AI team.
