It’s Not Just Who’s Watching The Ads, It’s How They Feel

May 21, 2025 By: FMI Staff

Smart TV's showing ads based on your mood by analyzing expressions and voice tone.

Your Smart TV can now read the room by analyzing facial expressions, voice tone, and micro-reactions to show ads based on your mood. Bored? You’ll see a wild new experience. Energized? You’ll get a fitness push.  With tools like LG’s Large Emotion Model, marketers can now read emotional cues and connect with consumers instantly and on a deeper level.

Why this matters: “Brands should think of these emotions as the warm-up act for their ads. When an ad appears in the right context, it becomes an extension of the story experience,” says Peter Crofut, VP of business development at Wurl.

Streaming isn’t just about content, it’s a storytelling platform. And great stories make you feel. That’s where emotion-targeted ads come in.

But here’s a friendly reminder: Emotional targeting must be served with empathy, transparency, and consent.
