How AR Can Minimize Fashion Waste

October 28, 2024 By: FMI Staff

🗑️Did you know? Almost 92 million tons of clothes end up in a landfill annually! A major contributor is the influencers who persuade consumers to purchase these garments in the first place.

As influencers’ impact on purchasing behaviour grows, so does the volume of gifted clothes from brands. Gifted outfits will often be worn once or twice before they’re discarded, contributing to the ever-growing pile of landfill waste.

🤳The rise of AR try-on technology could change this. Already used in stores to eliminate fitting rooms, recorded AR footage could soon allow influencers to “wear” digital clothing in social media ads, much like how celebrities rent outfits for events.

This way, influencers are paid for providing brands with exposure while companies can sustainably reduce the environmental and logistical impacts of physical gifts.
