How AI Could Personalize Merchandise

November 3, 2026 By: FMI Staff

Your watch history could shape your next merch purchase. πŸ‘•

Disney has filed a patent application for a system that could use AI to generate customized character merchandise based on user inputs and data, such as past purchases or previously watched shows. In other words, if you don’t like the design on your T-shirt, this system could help you create one you’ll love.

Marketers, if AI systems like this are introduced, they could change how your brand approaches licensed merchandise, design, and personalization.

Customers could have greater control over what their merchandise looks like and how they interact with a brand’s intellectual property. At the same time, brands could maintain control through built-in quality checks and safeguards that protect how characters are represented and used.

Taking it a step further, imagine a future where, from the comfort of your home, you could start a conversation with an AI system, co-create your own merchandise, and have it manufactured and delivered right to your doorstep.

Would you, as a consumer, like to be the co-creator of your merchandise?
