The metaverse is changing how consumers shop but is this technology ready for widespread use? Probably not, with metaverse-related innovations requiring at least another decade to achieve mainstream status. Yet, companies can start preparing for this imminent digital revolution by rethinking how they build their technology stacks and shape their customer journies.
In his recent article, Morten Næss, Executive Vice President of Bluestone, discusses retail in the metaverse. He touches on topics like the metaverse hype, retail brands in the metaverse, future shopping in a real OASIS, current and future technologies, virtual reality, and preparing brands and consumers for the metaverse. One preparation tip Næss provides is to simplify the customer journey. Metaverse shopping offers new ways of presenting, paying for, and delivering products. On the seller’s end, this means providing user-friendly designs, personalization, localization, multiple language options on eCommerce sites, and frictionless purchasing experiences.
Næss ends the article by admitting that the metaverse will not wholly reset the internet. Many customers and businesses will never even use it. Yet, the tips, observations, and predictions in his article are helpful regardless of whether companies dive head-first into the metaverse or not.
